Union Township is a second-class township administered by a three-person Board of Supervisors. Police services are provided by the Pennsylvania State Police; fire and ambulance protection is provided by several emergency service organizations in the area. Luzerne County is served by a 911 emergency calling system. Students attend the Northwest Area School District which consists of the Northwest Area Primary School serving grades K to 2 in Huntington Mills, Northwest Intermediate School housing grades 3 to 6 in Hunlock Creek, and the Northwest Junior-Senior High School; several private or parochial schools also serve the surrounding areas.
The Association itself is governed by an elected seven-member Executive Board. From the Executive Board are chosen a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Executive Board Members are Community Volunteers that serve staggered three-year terms in order to provide continuity on the Board. Board Meetings are held periodically throughout the year and in 2024, are being held every month, if possible, with the use of zoom for those who cannot attend in person. If a Property Owner wishes to address the Board they should contact the Association President. Meetings of the entire Association Membership are held during the Summer and Fall. All Property Owners are urged to attend the Summer and Fall Membership Meetings to hear reports and to provide input into the life of the Community.
